TMPR took a group of trade industry guests to enjoy a Friday afternoon out of London. The guest-list included attraction wholesalers, MICE agencies and concierges. We travelled in style and comfort by taking a15-seater executive minibus to Laverstoke Mill. Go Gutsi are a London based firm that provide luxury 10, 13 and 16 seater executive vehicles.
Based at Laverstoke Mill in rural Hampshire, just 15 miles from Winchester and 60 miles from London, the Bombay Sapphire Distillery that used to be a 300-year-old paper Mill with over 1000 years of history within a Conservation Area. The distillery showcases the care, skill and artistry behind every drop of Bombay Sapphire, and allows your group to discover the flavours of the botanicals, which make Bombay Sapphire gin so distinctive.
The afternoon began with meeting the Bombay Sapphire team whilst having a chilled citrus cocktail in the magnificent Empire room. Senior Gin Ambassador and mixologist Sam Carter took the group through a very charismatic tour of the history and production of Bombay Sapphire Gin.
One of the highlights of the tour was seeing the stunning glasshouses standing tall by the river test. They were designed by Heatherwick Studios to house 10 botanicals that originate in the tropics and some Mediterranean plants too. Inside it was very humid and Sam described the plants and the group had the chance to smell some of the fragrant leaves.
Another interesting part of the tour was experiencing the sights and smells of the Botanical dry room. This is where the fun begins and armed with a card and hole punch we wandered around smelling the various botanicals on display and punching out the card the ones that we liked the smell of. Apparently we taste through our nose and the aim of this exercise is to find what cocktail your will enjoy most.
The Botanical room can be hired as event space for a terrific cocktail reception up to 70 people and the Glasshouses too on a smaller scale for 20 – 30 guests.
For a larger event from 40 up to 200 guests, meetings, gala dinner, private party and most popular a wedding The Gallery provides the perfect space and setting by the river test.
We finished the tour in the Dakin Still House and saw firsthand each process of the distillation and a small sample of the alcohol in its primitive stages.
At the end of the afternoon we were privileged to experience a cocktail masterclass in the impressive Empire bar, which can be hired for a masterclass up to 14 guests, casual seating for 25 and standing reception for 30 guests.Sam Carter began the class by demonstrating what how to make each cocktail.
With all the utensils laid out on our individual work stations we got to grips with making the perfect Gin and tonic followed by their signature cocktail called The Laverstoke. This cocktail was created by Sam to celebrate the opening of the Bombay Sapphire distillery in 2014 and the drink is a delicious mix of martini Bianco, Bottlegreen elderflower cordial, lime wedges and mixed with Fever-Tree ginger ale. Cheers everyone!
